The deal marks one of the largest national AI deployments to date, with over 260,000 Nvidia GPUs set to power Korea's sovereign AI ambitions.
Nvidia has made a sweeping agreement with the South Korean government to deploy more than 260,000 of its latest AI chips across the country.
The deal also includes several of the nation's tech giants, such as Samsung Electronics, SK Group, Hyundai Motor Group and Naver, all of which will use Nvidia's chips to accelerate AI product development and deployment.
The announcement was made during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation South Korea summit in Gyeongju, and comes as part of South Korea's national strategy to become a leading AI hub in Asia.
Under the deal, the South Korean government will use over 50,000 of Nvidia's chips for AI infrastructure development, while the tech majors involved will each use up to 50,000 AI chips in their smart factories.
Samsung will use the chips to accelerate its semiconductor and digital transformation roadmap, Hyundai will use them to enable integrated AI model training, validation and deployment for manufacturing and autonomous driving.
SK Group is planning an AI cloud for robotics and industrial applications, while Naver, the country's largest internet portal and search engine provider, will purchase 60,000 Nvidia chips.
"Korea's leadership in technology and manufacturing positions it at the heart of the AI industrial revolution -- where accelerated computing becomes as vital as power grids and broadband," Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement on the launch. "The nation can now produce intelligence as a new export that will drive global transformation."
Nvidia is also collaborating with LG AI Research, SK Telecom, Naver Cloud, NC AI and Upstage to create Korean large language models.
The agreement reinforces Nvidia's broader global strategy to anchor AI infrastructure in key markets, following similar partnerships in Japan, Singapore and the Middle East, as Nvidia seeks to power the next generation of AI-driven economies.
"Nvidia's products with its ecosystem (computing, software, thermal management, digital twins, simulations, reference designs for AI factories) are becoming the foundation of the new AI era, critical for modernizing infrastructure to drive economic transformation," Gaurav Gupta, an analyst of emerging technologies and trends at Gartner told AI Business. "This is a strong push by the South Korean government in this AI arms race, giving the country massive AI compute capacity to advance its industries and research."
"Additionally, with the current situation with China where Nvidia isn't selling anything, South Korea is an opportunity to expand," he added.
The deal also further cements Nvidia's relationship with Samsung and SK Hynix, both of which Gupta said are crucial in their high bandwidth and memory solutions.
