Choosing Your First Generative AI Use Cases
To get started with generative AI, first focus on areas that can improve human experiences with information.
The two companies are teaming up to launch sovereign cloud and AI services for Japanese businesses, starting April 2025.
Oracle and SoftBank are teaming up again -- this time to provide Japanese businesses sovereign cloud and AI services.
SoftBank's new Cloud PF Type A platform -- a suite of proprietary cloud and AI services -- is set to be powered by Oracle Alloy for the Japanese market. Several AI features will be introduced in stages over the next few years with the aim of driving growth in Japan's digital economy, according to the two companies.
As in other parts of the world, this turbocharged digitalization and generation of data volumes will necessitate secure, sovereign management to keep economic interests protected and comply with regulations.
Oracle Alloy, a cloud infrastructure platform, will give SoftBank access to more than 200 cloud and AI services deployed across its Japanese data centers. SoftBank will use the platform to create a cloud system in its eastern and western Japan data centers, with the service starting in the former in April next year and getting under way in the latter a few months later in October, according to a press release.
As part of the tie-up, SoftBank will combine an Oracle service for centrally managing and maintaining control of encryption keys with its own proprietary key management service to provide additional protection for customers' data.
Hayato Sakurai, executive vice president of SoftBank, welcomed the announcement, stating in the release: "We are delighted to collaborate with Oracle to offer a cloud platform that addresses the high-security standards in our data centers.
"By integrating advanced technologies such as generative AI and high-performance GPUs, we will continue to address the diverse needs of our customers, empowering them to innovate, stay competitive, and drive Japan's digital transformation."
Toshimitsu Misawa, president, Oracle Japan, described the collaboration as a "landmark initiative" that would allow AI workloads to run "quickly, securely and efficiently."
The Japanese arrangement underscores the burgeoning relationship between Oracle and SoftBank.
The pair is already working together with OpenAI in the U.S. as part of the $500 billion Stargate initiative, launched in January to develop a comprehensive AI infrastructure platform across the country.
In late September, details of five new AI data centers that will be established as part of Stargate were revealed.
